Saeed Ohadi told IQNA that this number of Iranians have made the pilgrimage trip to attend the mourning processions held to mark Arbaeen.
He said a large number of are also in border areas with Iraq to go to the holy sites in the country on the occasion of Arbaeen.
Arbaeen marks the anniversary of the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS). It falls on Monday, December 23, this year.
Ohadi further said sending pilgrims to Umrah Hajj has begun, noting that it is the first time in 30 year that Iranin are making the trip to the holy city of Medina in the month of Safar (on the lunar Hijri calendar).
He said between 850,000 and 870,000 Iranian pilgrims are expected to go on Umrah hajj pilgrimage this year.
