The Zarih of Imam Hussein (AS) Holy Tomb

The holy windowed cage (Zarih) of the Imam Hussein tomb has a deep-rooted history.

It was damaged and rebuilt many times. The previous holy windowed cage aged 75 years and was made in India. It was installed in 1938. A piece of paper found inside the holy windowed cage during the last replacement mentioning the date of making and transporting the previous one by the carpenter Mohammed Tahir in 1937. His son Siaf EL-Deen refurbished it with gold and silver in 2009 during the ex-regime of Sadam.

The new holy windowed cage weighs approximately 12 tons consisted of 118,650 kg of pure gold, 4600 kg of silver, 5350 kg of wood for the structure, 700 km of wood slabs, 250 kg of iron joints, 200 kg steel belts, 700 kg of decorative inner wood in addition to the 100 kg of other iron material.

It's been inscribed with verses of the noble Quran on the outer surface, and on the inner surface.

It's been installed by the famous Iranian artist Mahmood Farshchian in cooperation with personnel specialized in drawing, ornamentation and designing of holy windowed cages. It took 5 years of continuous working to achieve until it was completely made and installed on March 5, 2013.

A great crowded audience of foreign and local figures attended and participated in the festival, in addition to successive arrival of religious, political and artistic figures.

The festival was inaugurated with reciting some verses of Noble Quran by the reciter Shereef Amir from Egypt and then a speech delivered by the Secretariat-General of the Imam Hussein holy shrine his eminence Shaikh Abdul Mahdy EL-Kerbala'i in which he welcomed all the attendees. Also, a speech delivered by Shaikh Amir EL-Azawi from Baghdad in which he emphasized utilizing such a great event to gather up the unity of Iraq under the banner of Imam Hussein (AS).

He also said, "We have gathered here in adoration of Imam Hussein (AS), so we should be inspired by this adoration in order to instill the great principles of peaceful coexistence and live considerately.
