Hezbollah’s deputy secretary general said the latest terrorist attack in south of Beirut was aimed at destabilizing Lebanon.

Speaking to Al-Manar TV network, Sheikh Naeem Qassem said those who perpetrated the attack were mercenaries.

He said the Lebanese people, not Hezbollah, were the target of the attack, which was part of a broader scheme aimed at destroying Lebanon and provoking Fitna (sedition).

The Hezbollah official underlined that confronting such crimes is only possible through political stability and political understanding.

He said if political understanding is not achieved in Lebanon, the current conditions would continue and that would be to everyone’s detriment.

In the latest terrorist attack that took place in Al-Ariz district in the suburbs of Beirut, a car bomb exploded on Thursday, January 2.

The bombing killed 6 people and injured at least 80 others, according to Lebanese security forces.
