He made the remark while presenting an interpretation of verses 13 to 30 of Surah Yasin on Sunday, January 13.
“The Holy Prophet (PBUH) rose up in Makkah and invited people to Tawhid (monotheism). Some accepted the invitation and defended the Holy Prophet (PBUH) even to the point of sacrificing their lives and getting martyred.”
The grand Ayatollah said God in verse 13 cites an example: “And present to them an example: the people of the city, when the messengers came to it”.
He said this event had several dimensions. “First, there was the issue of sending messengers who had miracles and invited people to Tawhid. Second, there was the issue of those who rejected the messengers’ call.”
Those who accepted the invitation of the messengers and believed in their message went so far in defending the messengers and their call that even sacrificed their lives for this cause, grand Ayatollah Javadi Amoli stated.
He said this example in Surah Yasin was for the disbelievers in Makkah but what happened in Makkah has happened many times afterward and is happening now, too.
He noted that during the course of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, many recognized Imam Khomeini’s (RA) call, some rejected his call and some went up to the point of martyrdom to support the religion.
