The president made the remarks in a meeting with Jose Manuel Barroso, president of the European commission, adding that terrorism is a threat to everyone and that everyone should make efforts to confront it.
Hojat-ol-Islam Rouhani also pointed to the talks between Iran and the G5+1 (permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) and hoped that the comprehensive talks between the two sides wil start soon.
He stressed that should the NPT be the basis of the negotiations, the disputed issues could be resolved in a short time.
The president also hoped for the expansion of ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Europe.
During the meeting, which was also attended by Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, Barroso highlighted Iran’s important role in the Middle East and hailed the start of dialogue with Iran.
He also said that the ground is set for the development of relations between Iran and EU in political and economic fields.
