The Supreme Islamic Council of Congo plans to set up an Islamic radio and TV network in the country.

President of the council Jibril Bupaka said the network will be launched next month in the city of Pointe-Noire, the second largest city in the Republic of the Congo, starducongo website reported.

He said the network will broadcast religious programs and cover the main events in the country, especially those related to the religious activities of followers of Divine faiths.

Bupaka noted that the plan for launching the network has been studied for three years and that it received permission only recently.

The Republic of the Congo- sometimes referred to as Congo Republic or Congo-Brazzaville- is a country located in Central Africa.

Islam spread to the Republic of the Congo from North Africa in the mid-19th century. The Muslim community in the country is estimated at 1.3 percent of the population.
