Iran’s President Hojat-ol-Islam Hassan Rouhani urged the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to make endeavors to dispel the distortions about Islam.

The president made the remark on Wednesday, in a meeting with the OIC Secretary General Iyad Ameen Madani, adding that the OIC should foster the compassionate image of Islam and the Holy prophet (PBUH) in the world.
He noted that the enemies of Islam have spread Islamophobia and extremists have also played into their hands.
Dr Rouhani stressed that the Muslim world has many expectations from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
The president underlined that respecting others’ views in the Muslim world is a prerequisite for Islamic unity, adding that the OIC should convey the unified voice of the Muslim Ummah and prevent insults to the beliefs of Muslims.
He further underlined that one of the major goals of the OIC is liberation of the holy Quds and Palestine from occupation and trying to help Palestinian refugees return to their homeland.
Iyad Ameen Madani, for his part, said the OIC needs Iran’s support for resolving conflicts in the Muslim world.
“We need to take practical steps for the unity of the Islamic world and for bringing Muslim nations closer together,” he said, adding “we should develop dialogue among Muslim governments and nations.”
Mr. Madani is in Iran to attend the 9th session of the OIC Parliamentary Assembly meeting, which is slated to be held in Tehran on February 18-19.
