Hundreds of thousands of Bahraini took part in the rallies held on Saturday at the invitation of revolutionary and opposition groups, Al-Alam news network reported.
Issuing a statement, the demonstrators urged for a democratic government to replace the current despotic regime.
The committee for organizing the rallies estimated the number of participants in the marches on Saturday at 300,000.
The demonstrators carried banners and placards reading “democracy is the solution”.
They underlined that people’s citizenship rights must be respected in the Persian Gulf country.
The demonstrations in Manama began in Badi Street and continued peacefully despite attempts by Al Khalifa regime forces to block the way.
Among the protesters’ demands mentioned in the final statement were the release of political prisoners, an end to the current trials of political activists, establishment of a democratic system, and formation of an independent judiciary.
The demonstrators also called on the world community to support the Bahraini people’s movement against the autocratic regime.
Bahrain has been the scene of almost daily protests against the Al Khalifa regime since February 2011. An uprising broke out in the country in mid-February 2011. The protesters initially called for political reforms and a constitutional monarchy, but the regime’s heavy-handed crackdown on them soon prompted an outright call for the ouster of Al Khalifa regime.
