Al-Maliki accused some of Iraq’s neighbors of providing financial support for terrorist groups, including the ISIL, Al-Manar reported.
Speaking to Al-Iraqia network on Thursday, he did mention the countries by name but said they want the ISIL to be active in Iraq with a sectarian agenda.
He said the rising number of terrorist activities and violence in Iraq is rooted in a terrorist network in the region that is also active in Syria and Lebanon.
He also said that many of the armed militants who carry out acts of terrorism in Iraq are foreigners who have infiltrated the country mostly from the Syrian borders.
Violence in Iraq has intensified in the past few months.
