Members of the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) terrorist group have destroyed a number of mosques and pilgrimage sites in northern Syria.

In a recent attack on the town of Tal Marouf, they demolished the mosques and religious sites in the town, Al-Alam news network reported.
An eye witness said members of the terrorist group attacked a mosque near his home and set fire to the mosque and even copies of the Quran.
He said Tal Marouf is not the only place in Syria where mosques and religious sites have been destroyed by ISIL militants.
The so-called Islamic State of Iraq and Levant is an al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist group.
Syria has been the scene of deadly violence since March 2011. Over 130,000 people have reportedly been killed and millions displaced due to the turmoil.
