The society’s women’s affairs department issued a statement on the occasion of the International Women’s Day, urging the international community, epically rights groups, to demand that the Bahraini regime respect the political and social rights of the country’s women.
It said while the world celebrates the International Women’s Day, Bahraini women are suffering from different kinds of injustices and oppressions.
It noted violation of Bahraini women’s rights, which started since the beginning of the country’s February 2011 revolution, has intensified in the past three months.
The society added that with the killing of Asma Hussein Ali Abdul-Reza early in January, the number of Bahraini women martyred since the start of the revolution has passed 30.
Bahrain has been the scene of almost daily protests against the Al Khalifa regime since February 2011, when thousands of pro-democracy protesters took to the streets, calling for the royal family to leave power.
On March 14, 2011, troops from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates invaded the country to assist the Bahraini regime in its crackdown on peaceful protesters.
According to local sources, scores of people have been killed and hundreds arrested.
