A Middle East expert said Takfiri ideas in the contemporary era have originated from Wahabism.

Speaking to IQNA, Mohammad Ali Mohtadi added that Takfir (considering fellow Muslims as infidels) aims to create rifts and discord in the Muslim world.
He said the enemies of Islam, including Zionist and Western groups, have provoked the phenomenon of Takfir and regretted that some Arab countries also play a role in this plot.
Mohtadi underlined that the Zionists directly benefit from the spread of Takfiri ideology.
He noted further that different branches of Takfiri groups have spread in parts of the Muslim world such as Egypt, Iraq, and Syria.
According to the political expert, while Islam considers anyone who recites the Shahada and says prayers as Muslim, Takfiri groups regard not only the followers of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) but many of their own as infidels.
“The best example of this can been seen in Syria where pat of Al-Qaeda named Al-Nusra Front is fighting with another part called the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL). Both of these groups consider themselves Sunni and Salafi Muslims and Jihadi groups but at the same time are killing one another.”
Mohtadi stressed the need for formation of a coalition of Muslim countries to confront the phenomenon of Takfir.
He said there is a unified strategy needed to tackle this issue because otherwise, Takfir may continue to spread.
The political expert went on to say that the Muslim world ought to stand up against Takfir and Takfiri ideology in order to safeguard Islam and the Muslim Ummah.
