It started with a message sent by leader of the Roman Catholic Church Pope Francis, la-croix website reported.
In his message, the pope underlined the need for followers of all divine faiths to contribute to the formation of a modern society.
Representatives of Lebanon’s Muslim and Christian institutions are taking part in the interfaith event.
They attended a joint prayer program yesterday on the sidelines of the main event.
During the week-long interfaith dialogue, there will also be cultural festivals.
Of the population of Lebanon, some 60 percent are Muslims and around 39 percent are Christians (mostly Maronites, Greek Orthodox, Armenian Apostolic, and Melkite Greek Catholics).
