The country’s Awqaf minister Muhammad Mukhtar Guma as well as members of the jury panel and the contestants were present at the ceremony held in Nasr district of Cairo, the website of Egypt’s Awqaf ministry said.
In the first category of the competition, memorization of the entire Quran along with Tajweed and Tarteel recitation and questions on the Sha’an Nuzul (reason of revelation), Amr Ala Ibrahim from Egypt bagged the top prize.
He was followed by Abdul Rahman Muhammad Abdul Rahman from Yemen.
Muaz bin Qazi Murshid Al-Tayyib from Saudi Arabia came first in the second category, memorization of the entire Quran along with Tajweed and Tarteel recitation and interpretation of the 30th Juz (section) of the Holy Book.
Top winners of the third and fourth categories were Muhammad Zakariya from Bangladesh and Nida Yamshi Mousa from Brunei, respectively.
Addressing the ceremony, Muhammad Mukhtar Guma stressed Egyptian government and people’s attention to Quranic activities and serving the Holy Book.
He noted that 71 Quran reciters and memorizers from 46 countries took part in the 21st international Quran competition of Egypt.
The official added that winners of the first and second titles in the four categories of the competition will be given extricates of honor by Egypt’s president in another official ceremony slated for the holy month of Ramadan.
Egypt’s international Holy Quran contest was held in Cairo on April 5-10. The annual competition, which is one of the most prestigious Quranic events in the Muslim world, was not held in the past two years due to the political turmoil in Egypt.
