Algeria Demands Quran Copies Available for Its Players in World Cup
With less than two months to go before the 2014 FIFA World Cup kicks off in Brazil, a Brazilian daily has published demands made by some of the participating countries to the organizers of the big event.
Algeria has demanded that all rooms for players and team officials need to have a copy of the Holy Quran.
Algeria is a predominantly Muslim country in North Africa. Nearly 99-percent of the country’s population is Muslim.
France has demanded that the hotel where the French team are going to stay must serve halal food because many of the team’s players are Muslim.
What Algeria and France have asked for seem justified as they are related to the religious obligations of the players and officials of the teams.
But there are also some strange demands made by a number of other countries.
Japan, for example, says every room must have a jacuzzi tub while Uruguay wants all rooms tohave a completely silent air conditioner and Portugal says six bodyguards have to be available to the team at all times, four of whom are just for Ronaldo.
The 2014 FIFA World Cup will kick off in a ceremony on June 12. The opening match will be between Brazil and Croatia on Friday, June 13.
A total of 32 teams split into eight groups will be vying for the coveted World Cup trophy in Brazil.
