“Islamic Calligraphy” Int’l Festival Opens in Jordan

An international festival of “Islamic calligraphy” was opened on May 18 at Ras al-‘Ain Art Gallery of Jordan in cooperation with the country’s Calligraphers Association.


According to Petra news agency, calligraphers from different parts of the world have participated at the festival which will conclude on May 22.

It was opened by Lana Mamkegh, Jordanian Minister of Culture, who said that the ministry supports such activities.

Ihsan Al-Turkamani, head of the association said in this respect that beauties, styles and concepts of Islamic calligraphy are unique.

“This kind of calligraphy was introduced and developed with the beginning of Islamic mission and civilization,” he added.

The Jordanian Calligraphers Association was established in 1993. Some 300 calligraphers from Jordan as well as a number of artists from various Arab countries are members of the association.

A main objective of the association is to show the beauties and features of Islamic calligraphy as a criterion of Islamic identity.

The association has actively participated in many Arabic and international festivals.
