India to Host Int'l Quran Competition

The fourth edition of India's international competition on memorization and recitation of the Quran is slated to be held on Monday, May 26.


It will be organized in the city of Bangalore, south of India, on the occasion of Mab'ath (the appointment of Muhammad (PBUH) as messenger of God), IQNA's South Asia branch reported.

According to Mehdi Hosseinkhani, director of the Iranian Cultural House in Mumbai, the Islamic Republic of Iran will be represented at the competition by Hassan Zarnousheh and Ali Qassemabadi.

Quran reciters from a number of other countries including Egypt and Bangladesh will also take part in the contest.

It is annually organized by the Bangalore Grand Mosque's board of trustees in cooperation with the Iranian Cultural House.

India is home to 10 percent of the world's Muslim Population. More than 176 million Muslims live in the South Asian country.
