Speaking to IQNA, Sheikh Muhammad Abdul Wahhab Tantawi also described the International Quran Competition of the Islamic Republic of Iran as a venue in which Islamic unity is demonstrated.
Tantawi, who served as a jury member of the contest, said all members of the Muslim Ummah, especially the Quran activists ought to work for Islamic unity and try to prevent sectarian tension.
He referred to verse 52 of Surah Muminun " And indeed this, your religion, is one religion, and I am your Lord, so fear Me" and verse 103 of Surah Al-Imran " And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided…" , noting that the Holy Book in various verses underlines the need for Muslim unity.
The Egyptian Quran master said organizing Quran competitions, conferences, and forums in which Quran activists and scholars from around the world come together is an important way of demonstrating Muslim unity.
He further praised Iran for attaching importance to Quranic activities, stressing that Iran is a pioneering country in holding Quranic programs and in efforts to foster the culture and teachings of the Holy Quran.
The 31st edition of the Islamic Republic of Iran's International Holy Quran Competition kicked off in the capital, Tehran, on Monday.
120 reciters and memorizers of the Quran representing more than 70 countries competed in the event, which concluded on June 2.
