Samih Ahmed Athameneh, who served as a jury member at the 31st International holy Quran Competition of the Islamic Republic of Iran, also told IQNA that organizers of all Quran contests make efforts to have a greater part in serving the Quran.
He referred to Iran’s Quran competition as a venue for linking the west and the east of the Muslim world, adding that it has brought together Quran activists from all over the world.
Athameneh said the competition is one of the best Quranic events along with the Quran competitions in Malaysia and Saudi Arabia.
He praised the Iranian Quran contest’s judgment regulations describing it as the most precise among international Quran competitions.
He added that in one of the sessions of the Council for Organizers of International Quran Competitions, which was established three years ago and of which he is a member, some of the participants suggested that Iran’s contest be a model for drafting the judgment regulations of all international Quran competitions, but political issues prevented it from happening.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Jordanian Quranic figure referred to his Quranic activities and said heads the jury panel of Al-Hashimi International Quran Competition of Jordan.
He also serves as secretary general of the Sharia education in his country’s Awqaf Ministry.
Athameneh has so far attended Quran competitions in 13 countries as a jury member. They include Malaysia, Algeria, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Palestine and Russia.
The 31st edition of the Islamic Republic of Iran's International Holy Quran Competition was held in the capital, Tehran, from May 28 to June 2.
120 reciters and memorizers of the Quran representing more than 70 countries competed in the contest.
The awarding ceremony was held on Monday, June 3, with the participation of senior officials including Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani.
