One of the factors hindering the development of Quran recitation in non-Islamic countries is the lack of experienced teachers, a Qari from Germany told IQNA.

Ahmad Elias Mehrzad, who represented Germany in the 31st edition of the Islamic Republic of Iran's International Holy Quran Competition, hoped that young Quran reciters from these countries can benefit from the expertise of experienced Iranian Quran masters.
Referring to his Quranic activities, Mehrzad said he started learning the Quran at the age of 3.
He said his family holds Quranic sessions in the city of Bochum, Germany, which attracts many Muslims.
As for his selection to represent Germany at Iran's Quranic event, he said a national qualifying contest was held in the city of Hamburg and he came first in the recitation category.
Mehrzad, who was in Iran for the second time, described the international Quran contest of Iran as very good but noted that some of the participants needed to improve their Quranic skills before attending such an international event.
The 31st edition of the Islamic Republic of Iran's International Holy Quran Competition kicked off in the capital, Tehran, on May 26.
120 reciters and memorizers of the Quran representing more than 70 countries competed in the contest, which concluded on June 2.
The awarding ceremony was held on Monday, June 3, with the participation of senior officials including Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani.
