In his message, Larijani referred to the Syrian people's massive turnout in the polls despite threats made by terrorist groups, and said the election, especially the massive participation of people, was an important regional and international event.
He said Syria's presidential vote changed political equations in favor of the people of Syria and the axis of resistance and dismayed the enemies of the Syrian nation.
Larijani also underlined that Assad's reelection carries the message that any solution for the current crisis in Syria should be based on national dialogue and in accordance to wish of the Syrian people.
According to official figures, Assad won nearly 90 percent of the votes cast in Syria’s presidential race. Syria’s Supreme Constitutional Court also announced that over 73 percent of the 15.8 million eligible voters had taken part in the election.
Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since March 2011. Over 160,000 people have reportedly been killed and millions displaced due to the violence fueled by the foreign-backed militants.
