More than 100 members of the armed forces compete in the 7 categories of the contest, Al-Sharq daily reported.
Ali Ahmed Al-Bariq, head of the organizing committee, said the competition is held in the categories of memorization of the entire Holy Quran, and memorization of 25 Juzes (sections), 20 Juzes, 15 Juzes, 10 Juzes, 5 Juzes and 3 Juzes of the Holy Book.
He said the number of contenders in the first category is 28.
Al-Bariq added that the total number of participants this year shows a nearly 40 percent rise compared to the previous edition.
He went on to say that winners of the top titles in the Quran competition will be sent to Umrah (minor) Hajj pilgrimage.
