The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution’s representative office in Syria held the Quranic event, IRIBNews reported.
Samir Sanduq, an official with the organizing team, said the competition has been held for many years, including the past three years despite the ongoing crisis in Syria.
He added that the contest, held for three age groups of children, teenagers, and adults, has been warmly received by people over the years.
Hussein Faur from a small city north of Aleppo took part in the competition’s section for adults.
He says the contest plays a role in enhancing the society’s connection with the Holy Quran and adds that recitation and memorization of the Holy Book brings about peace of mind.
Yasser, a fifth-grade student who attended the children’s section of the contest, said his aim was not winning a prize but improving his Quran recitation skills.
“I like to learn the Quran and be one of God’s pious servants,” he adds.
