A senior Iranian cleric referred to memorization and recitation of the Holy Quran as a prelude to pondering over the Holy Book.

Addressing a number of participants in a Quran interpretation competition in Mashhad, Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi urged that one should not remain in the recitation and memorization stage but should more to the next level that is contemplating the Quran and acting upon its teachings.
He described the Holy Quran as an invaluable treasure and warned that it should not be isolated among Muslims.
The senior scholar noted that after the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, the Holy Book's teachings entered the everyday life of people.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi said in many mosques across the country worshippers recite the Quran after daily prayers, which is an action worthy of praise and one that should spread.
