In a press conference on Sunday, Al-Kharafi said the contest is meant to encourage citizens, of various ages, to rush and dedicate themselves to the Book of Allah through memorization, recitation, and careful consideration and to prepare a generation of reciters and memorizers who represent Kuwait in international competitions, KUNA reported.
Al-Kharafi encouraged different Kuwaiti bodies to present nominees for the competition.
He pointed out that this year's edition will include a new division for Qira'at, or Quran readings. There are also sections for children, youth and people with special needs.
According to Head of the Competition Organizing Committee and Deputy Chief of Kuwait Awqaf Public Foundation (KAPF) Mohammad Jalahma, the competition has made remarkable development in the past few years.
Over 30 bodies partook in last year's edition, he said.
He stated that the competitor must be of Kuwaiti nationality and should be nominated by one of the bodies participating in the competition.
A competitor is not entitled to participate in more than one category or section, and a winner in a specific category or section is not entitled to return to compete again, Al-Jalahma said, adding that the winner in a specific section is not entitled to compete in a lower one.
