Iranian Qari Mehdi Gholamnejad will represent the Islamic Republic in Russia's international Holy Quran competition.

The Quran reciter, who came 4th in Iran's national Quran competition last year, will leave for Moscow on September 16.
Gholamnejad told the Fars news agency that he is practicing and listening to recitations by prominent Qaris to enhance his recitation skills before attending Russia's contest.
He noted that the international Quran competition in Russia is held for Qaris under the age of 30.
Russia's Quran competition was first held in 2000 with the participation of students of Islamic schools. In due course the competition gained higher status. Since 2003 it became of regional scale. And in 2005 the Moscow Quran reciting competition became All-Russian.
In 2007 a decision was made by Russia Mufties Council to attract more participants from many other regions and countries. Thus the competition became international.
