Rome to Host ISESCO Forum

The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), in coordination with the COREIS (Islamic Religious Community of Italy), will hold the 14th meeting of the Supreme Council for Education, Science and Culture for Muslims outside the Islamic World, in Rome, Italy, on 15-16 September 2014.

 

The meeting will be presided over by Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, ISESCO Director General.

The meeting is aimed at strengthening links and fostering communication, cooperation and coordination between the Council members and Islamic cultural centers and associations outside the Muslim world. Other objectives will include redressing misinformation on Islam and Muslims and highlighting Islam’s civilizational mission; examining the best experiences and projects regarding the activation of the Executive Plan of the Strategy for Islamic Cultural Action outside the Islamic World; and spreading the values of middle stance, moderation and dialogue and the culture of peace.
During this meeting, the Council members will discuss a number of reports and documents on the role of cultural mediation in promoting dialogue among followers of religions and cultures, and the legal violations of western media against Islam and Muslims. The heads of the Council commissions will also make presentations and put forward a set of proposals.
Will take part in this meeting the Council members belonging to the following countries: Italy, France, Switzerland, Spain, England, Albania, Argentina, Brazil, Russia and Singapore.
Dr Abdelilah Benarafa, expert in cultural policies and cultural diversity at the Culture and Communication Directorate, will supervise the organizational aspects of this meeting.
Concurrently with this meeting, ISESCO Director General will give a lecture on “Islam and Europe: consolidating alliance of civilizations and concord between religions”, at the Italian Senate, on 15 September 2014. On the same occasion, Dr Yahya Pallavicini, President of the Supreme Council for Education, Science and Culture for Muslims outside the Islamic World, will be appointed as ISESCO’s Ambassador for Dialogue among Cultures and Civilizations.
It is worth mentioning that the Supreme Council for Education, Science and Culture for Muslims outside the Islamic World is a body that reports to ISESCO, and works in coordination with its General Directorate to implement the Strategy for Islamic Cultural Action outside the Islamic World. The Council’s members include a number of heads of Islamic centres and Muslim competences that operate in the field of Islamic cultural action outside the Islamic world in Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, Southeast Asia and the Pacific.
