Brunei Reciter Secures 4th Place at Int'l Quran Contest

Brunei Qariah Amal Nazirah Hj Asmat did her nation proud at the International Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran (MTQ) competition in Kota Palembang, Sumatera by ranking fourth out of 83 other contenders from 39 participating countries.

 

The 26-year old, a first time international competitor for Brunei, scored 85.83 points finishing just behind Indonesia’s Miftahul Jannah with 95.75 points, Hanimzah of Malaysia and Hasnae Khoulali of Morocco.
Deputy Permanent Secretary of Religious Affairs Ustaz Hj Harun Hj Junid was on hand to welcome home the Brunei team, also comprising two Qaris Muhammad Fikri Hj Sharbini and Muhammad Fikri Hj Metussin, home yesterday.
In an interview with The Brunei Times, Amal Nazirah shared that it was with the blessings and support of her parents; husband; friends and religious coaches that she managed her accomplishment at the competition.
Meanwhile host nation Indonesia evidently showed they were in a league of their own, triumphant in all three categories; Qariah Tilawah, Qari Tilawah and Tahfiz. Indonesian Bangun Syahraya with 97.25 points was the best Qari in the Qari Tilawah category. He edged Pranon Mustafa of Thailand, Zakaria Traboulsi of Lebanon, Numan M Pimbayabaya of Philippines and Ali Salah Ali Omar Khalil of Bahrain.
In the Tahfiz category, another Indonesian Kgq Rasyid Siddiq scored the highest marks with 99.67 points winning by just one point from his closest rival, Muhammad Isfahanian of  Iran.
