Dagestan’s Shia Muslims Compete in Quran Recitation Contest

The first Quran recitation competition for the Republic of Dagestan’s Shia Muslims was held earlier this week in the city of Makhachkala.

According to IQNA’s Europe branch, the contest was organized by the Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) Institute.
23 Shias from different cities of the republic took part in the Quranic competition.
Chubanev Maqsud and Malikov Aldar came first and second while Husseinov Ramin and Gaibatov Ali Reza jointly won the third rank.
Dagestan is an autonomous region of Russia located in the North Caucasus region. Its capital and largest city is Makhachkala.
Some 90 percent of the republic’s population is Muslim.
