Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought Int’l Workshop Held in Karbala

An international workshop on “proximity of Islamic schools of thought, today’s crisis and related international fields” was held in the holy city of Karbala, Iraq.


According to Al-Kafeel website, a number of Iraqi intellectuals and scholars from different parts of the world participated at the workshop on October 11.

What does it mean to promote proximity of schools of thought? Which results are expected to occur? Will it mean something different from what it means now? and What approaches have been taken at the international level to realize the proximity? were the main themes discussed at the program.

Abdul Haleem Al-‘Azmi, editor in chief of Egypt’s national Islamic magazine, Hassan Hadi from Lebanon, Edris Hani from Morocco, Amjad Hussein Shah Naqawi, head of Shia Association in London and Edward Cook from England presented speeches at the workshop.

Avoiding diversion among Muslims, developing methods to promote unity in Muslim world, highlighting commonalities among the schools of thoughts, promoting the proximity through holding forums, making use of mass media, scientific magazines and making relations with Islamic societies and centers all over the world were some of the themes of the speeches.

The participants stressed the necessity of dialogue among religious scholars and intellectuals of the Muslim world and dialogue was introduced as the best way to fight extremism and Takfiri groups.
