The guest of Honor was the Assistant District Officer from Tutong District, Hj Adnan Hj Adam.
Winning the competition in the Al-Quran reading was Md Syahmi Abdullah Jaling and Nurhaziyah Md Abas while Fadzil Ehsan Adullah Tanga and Nur Azra Amanina Md Syalim topped the the verse recitation. Out of four groups in the
Da’wah song category, Nuur Raudah group came up as number one.
Islamic Da’wah Centre officer in Tutong, Pg Haji Jufri, told The Brunei Times that , “the significance of this event is to make the reading of Al-Quran as a practice for Muslim converts. Apart from that, we are hoping that by having these religious competitions, we can strengthen the brotherhood of Muslim converts in Tutong district.”
One of the participants in Al-Quran reading competition, Muhammad Daniel Ashraf Md Saidi, said, “By having this competition, we can deepen our skills in reading the Al-Quran, and from what I can see the Islamic Da’wah Centre is encouraging the Muslim converts to participate in the religious event and competitions so that the winner can be a role model for the Muslim converts in Brunei.”
He further said,” I converted to Islam in 2007 and I like the rhythm and the sound of reading Al-Quran. I started learning Al-Quran from IQRA, and I joined several classes to refine my reading.”
The event also aimed to find a potential candidate to represent Tutong Muslim converts in the National Al-Quran reading competition.
The same event was organised recently by the IDC in Belait District.
The winners in all four districts will be competing on November 30 at the Islamic Da’wah Centre in the capital.
