Syria Quran Competition Winners Awarded

-- Winners of the 12th edition of Syria's national Quran contest received their awards in a ceremony held in Damascus Sunday night, the Shaam Press reported.

During the ceremony, held by the Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Ministry at Al-Iman Mosque, Mohammad Abdusattar the Minister of Awqaf delivered a speech in which he underlined the significance of memorizing and reciting the verses of the holy book as well as reflecting on the meaning of the verses.

The contest was held two weeks ago in the fields of Tajweed and memorization of 10 and 20 Joz (sections) of the Quran as well as memorization of the entire Quran.

Winners of the first, second and third titles in each category received a plaque of honor as well as cash prizes.
