“Gaza; Symbol of Palestinian Resistance” Commemorated in Qatar

-- On the first anniversary of Zionists’ cruel invasion of Gaza, a ceremony was organized on January 7 at Iranian Educational Complex in Doha.
The ceremony was held by Iran Cultural Center in Qatar in cooperation with Iranian and Palestinian schools’ managers in the country. It was planned following the decision made by Islamic Consultative Assembly to call the day as “day of Gaza, symbol of Palestinian resistance”.

Addressing the ceremony attended by a number of ambassadors and cultural attaches of Islamic and Arab countries, Abdullah Sohrabi, Iranian ambassador to Qatar said, “The calamity in Gaza was one of the biggest crimes against humanity in this century, the outcomes of which still exist in various aspects.”

“All liberal countries and peace-loving people have expressed their disgust toward the Zionists’ aggression and continuation of the Gaza siege. But some countries including Iran, Qatar and Venezuela have played more outstanding roles in this respect, expressing their support for Palestinians, he added.
He praised the deporting of the Zionist ambassador to Venezuela following a decision by Venezuelan president.

Expressing gratitude to the Iranian ambassador and organizers of the ceremony, Khuan Antonio Ornandez, Venezuelan ambassador to Qatar, declared the support of his country for Iran, Qatar and Palestine and stressed the importance of unity among Islamic countries to defend holy ideals of the Palestinian nation.

The ceremony included poetry reading by Nazmi Kazem, Palestinian poet, on the resistance movement of his fellow countrymen against the Zionists.

A scroll was also signed by the participants in the ceremony which will be delivered to the UN. It includes five themes condemning the crimes committed by Zionist regime in Gaza, particularly against children and students and destruction of schools and educational centers of the region, asking the world as well as the director general of the UN to take a serious measures to prevent continuation of the occupation of Palestine, Zionist settlement building and Judaization of the holy Quds, and to put on trial Zionist criminals for war crimes based on Goldstone’s report on Gaza, and urging Egypt to stop construction of a steel wall along the Gaza borders.
