Visiting the fair’s site at Imam Khomeini (RA) Grand Mosque (Musalla) on April 6, Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini also told IQNA that “Over 2000 national and international publishers will be present in the exhibition”, urging all writers and publishers to devote their attention to such an important issue and present books on Islamic awareness".
“Also present at this year’s fair will be representatives from different organizations and embassies who will showcase their cultural and artistic activities”.
Hosseini further noted that this year, 230,000 books would go on display in the domestic section, adding that the figure shows a 10% increase compared to that of last year.
“We decided to begin the preliminary and setting-up process of the fair earlier this year to finish it before the opening ceremony,” he went on to say.
Highlighting the long record of holding the book fair in Tehran, Hosseini asserted: “Plans are underway for devoting a special section to the photos and documentaries left from the past 25 years. Former organizers and deputies of the exhibition will be honored as well.”
Referring to the Islamic Awakening as an important section of the fair, he added that the countries involved in the movement such as Egypt, Libya, Tunisia and Yemen would be admired in this section.
He also highlighted the significance of virtual publication, noting that this year 20 pavilions will be devoted to this sphere.
“Over 20 billion Iranian rials has been allocated to university students so that they can purchase the books they need at the 25th edition of the event,” he went to say, adding that international publishers’ problems in previous years are also resolved with the help of the Central Bank.
Attaching great significance to Tehran Book Fair, Hosseini expressed hopes that it would be appreciated not merely as a place for buying books but as a venue for meeting writers and publishers and introducing the newly-published books.
The 25th International Book Fair is to officially open on May 1 and will be underway till May 22.
