Head of the Majlis’ Library, Museum and Archive Center Hojat-ol-Islam Rasul Jafarain said there is no organization or institute in charge of organizing Quranic manuscripts.
Speaking to IQNA, he stressed that manuscripts are great sources for researchers.
On Quran manuscript copies, he said there are two types of Quran manuscript copies, one including translation, interpretation and marginal notes, and the other without such features. Hojat-ol-Islam Jafarain stressed that both types should be preserved and research studies ought to be conducted on the copies.
He regretted that some profiteers buy invaluable Quran manuscripts that contain illuminations and other artistic features and remove the verses from the copies. “The government should designate a special budget for purchasing such precious manuscripts.”
Hojat-ol-Islam Jafarain noted that Majlis’ Library, Museum and Archive Center has set up a council for purchasing manuscripts, and that it purchased over 550 manuscript copies in the last Iranian year that ended on march 20.
He also suggested that like other countries a center be founded for organizing all manuscripts including Quranic ones.
Head of the Majlis’ Library urged that more be done to catalogue and digitize rare manuscripts so that people can benefit from their digital versions.
He further highlighted the need for promoting the culture of making Waqf (donating) books and manuscripts and building libraries.
