The eloquence of the Quran and the literary techniques seen in Quranic verses form the first and most important aspects of the Quran’s miracle, a Muslim researcher said.
Speaking in an interview with IQNA, Rashid Kabur, who is a member of Muslim Students Society in Burkina Faso, added that unlike other sacred texts that only contain some news about the future, the Quran is a literary miracle, too.
He said no one has ever been able to present even one verse comparable to the verses of the Quran.
“The Holy Prophet (PBUH) was unlettered and lived among ordinary people. But during his 23 years of prophethood, he uttered things (verses of the Quran revealed to him) whose miraculous eloquence no Arab poet or literary figure has been able to deny.”
Referring to verse 26 of Surah Fussilat: ‘And those who disbelieve say: Listen not to this Quran, and make noise in the midst of its (recitation) that you may overcome,’ Kabur said the Quran’s miraculous eloquence was so effective in attracting Arabs to Islam that the Mushrikin (polytheists) decided to prevent people from listening to the Quran.
He added, however, that Quran’s miracle is not limited to literary aspects but there are many examples of the Quran’s scientific miracle, for instance verses in which reference is made to the creation of the earth and heavens.
“With every new scientific discovery, one can go to the Divine verses and contemplate on the verses to find out references to it.”
He said that while the Quran was revealed to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) at a time when none of the modern scientific theories existed, it contains references to scientific facts whose accuracy is confirmed by the latest discoveries and there are no contradictions in them.
The researcher noted that Quran is the book of guidance, not a scientific book, and “if we see references to scientific facts in the Quran, it is because God, who is omniscient and has infinite knowledge, has revealed the verse to the Prophet’s (PBUH) heart.”
Concluding his remarks, Rashid Kabur pointed to one of the scientific references in verses 19 and 20 of Surah Ar-Rahman ‘He has let loosed the two seas (the salt water and the sweet) meeting together. Between them is a barrier which none of them can transgress,’ and said scientists have recently discovered that when the two seas meet, they do not merge because they have different levels of density.
“I believe any open-minded person will certainly accept the authenticity of Islam, seeing these verses and checking their scientific references with scientific facts.”
