President of the foundation Abdullah Abdul Aziz Al-Najjar said the center will open in the next three months in a bid to coordinate efforts about Waqf (Islamic donation) and Waqfi (donated) properties.
He said it also would be a step toward realizing viable development in Arab and Islamic communities, especially in poor countries.
According to Hassan Bin Yunis, secretary general of New Zealand’s Awqaf Office, the Waqf World Center will not enter the domain of religious Fatwas, but will focus on financial-related issues of Waqf, development of Waqf and using Waqf for serving the needy.
He said expansion of cooperation among Waqf institutes in the world would also be among the center’s priorities.
The Arabic Foundation for Science and Technology is a non-profit international institute whose central office is in Sharjah, the UAE.
