Amir Pourpezeshk said most of the new converts are educated individuals specialized in such fields as physics, psychology, computer, etc.
“They refer to Islam’s capacity to answer all of man’s questions and needs as the major reason for embracing the religion.”
He noted that in the past 20 years, over 30,000 Spanish citizens have converted to Islam and the number is growing, adding that the existing mosques and Islamic centers are not enough to meet the religious needs of the country’s Muslims.
He said currently some 1.5 million Muslims live in Spain, 200,000 of whom are Spanish citizens. “Hence, Spain has the fourth largest Muslim population in Europe, tracing behind the UK, France and Germany.”
Pourpezeshk referred to Madrid, Barcelona, Andalusia and Murcia as the four main regions in Spain where Muslims live.
