He was addressing Friday Prayer worshipers at the Tehran University Campus on Friday, a few days before the Army Day.
He referred to the world’s situation in the 1990, saying that after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the United States was introduced as the world’s only superpower. “They tried to show that they are worth of such title. For instance, they introduced the idea of the new world order.”
General Pourdastan said that at the time, an American research institute brought up a theory based on which new powers were emerging. “One of the emerging powers was the Islamic world formed of a unity between Shi’ite and Sunni Muslims.”
He said the Americans reviewed several strategies to prevent formation of these new power blocs. “They knew that dominating geographical regions would not be practical so decided to control energy sources and as you know the main sources of energy are in the Middle East.”
According to General Pourdastan, the US and Zionist spy agencies designed and implemented the 9/11 incident to facilitate domination in the Middle East.
He said, however, that the Islamic Awakening tide has tightened the noose around the neck of the world arrogance and the Zionists. “It made them change their strategy and they had to leave Iraq humiliatingly.”
