Call for Free Trade among Islamic Nations

The Ambassadors of Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) countries Saturday renewed the call for removing all barriers to trade between member countries of OIC, saying the creation of free trade amongst the member states, in order to ensure increase in trade between the Islamic nations with active participation of its private sectors. The Ambassadors were speaking at OIC Ambassadors Conference, organized by the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) here on today.
The LCCI President Irfan Qaiser Shaikh in his address of welcome highlighted the very objectives of holding this important conference. He said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry was desirous of having highest-level of trade among the Muslim state.
The Ambassadors said that the world was facing several challenges including poverty, hunger, terrorism, global recession, and natural disaster.
They said that Islamic world is not immune to these challenges, and should come together to tackle these issues in the Islamic world by encouraging trade with one another.
”OIC Ambassadors Conference,” in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held on Saturday at Bhurban. Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar will be the Chief Guest while the Ambassadors of all 57 OIC countries are participating in this first-ever conference arranged by any Chamber of Commerce in the country.
The very objective of holding this conference is to further strengthen trade and economic relations among all the Muslim countries that are one sixth of the world area and have more than one fifth of the total world population.
Leading economists presented their papers on the various facets of intra-OIC trade while ways and means to develop mechanism for free trade among all the 57 Muslim States also discussed.
