Speaking to IQNA, he said the Islamic Republic of Iran is a neighbor of Afghanistan and the two countries have common religion and language, adding that representative offices of Iranian Quranic centers can help promote Quranic activities in Afghanistan.
He said although there are some skilful Quran masters in Afghanistan, in the capital Kabul and elsewhere in the country there are no institutes providing high level Quranic education.
Hashemi hoped that eminent Iranian Quran reciters and memorizers would go to Afghanistan to train Quran instructors who will be able to provide Quranic education to those interested across Afghanistan.
He also called for cooperation between the two countries in launching Quranic centers in Afghanistan, especially for Shi’ites of the country, as the lack of Quranic institutes is more visible in the Shi’ite community in Afghanistan.
The Quran memorizer said that while there is a Hajj and Awqaf organization in Afghanistan that provides some services for the Sunni brothers in Quranic education and sending Quran memorizers and reciters to international Quranic events, there is no such organization for Shi’ite Quran learners.
Hashemi, who came second in the third International Quran Competition for Muslim World Students, further referred to memorization of the Quran as a way for remaining close to the Word of God all the time.
The Afghan memorizer said in order for a Quran memorizer to retain what he has learnt by heart, he should have a precise and coherent schedule for rereading the verses.
“It is also a good idea to listen to Quran recitations by prominent reciters of the world and contemplate on the verses of the Quran.”
Hashemi said he was attracted to Quranic activities when he heard Quran recitations by Egyptian masters. “I started learning Quran recitation and after a while decided to memorize the Quran, too. I managed to learn the entire Quran by heart in 9 months.”
Seyyed Hamidollah Hashemi is a graduate of Islamic Fiqh and Law from Khatam-un-Nabiyin (PBUH) University of Kabul.
He started learning the Quran at an early age and pursued his Quran education in Iran. After memorizing the entire Quran, he went back to Afghanistan and started teaching the Quran there.
He won the second rank in the recitation category of the third International Quran Competition for Muslim World Students, which was held in the holy city of Mashhad last year.
