New Russian Translation of Quran Planned
Deputy of the ethnology and anthropology department of Russia’s Academy of Sciences Efim Rezvan is working on a project to present a new translation of the Holy Quran in the Russian language.
It would be a linguistic-grammatical project to do a word-for-word translation of the Quran, voice of Russia website reported.
Upon completion, the translation will be made available online for all those interested to read.
An excerpt of the book ‘Quran and Its World’ by Efim Rezvan will form the preface for the Quran translation. Rezvan won the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Book of the Year Award in 2001 for ‘Quran and Its World’.
He has so far translated half of the Quran and his project is predicted to be completed in three years.
Efim Rezvan says in the course of the translation, as well as reading Arabic lexicons, he does research on a wide-range of related issues such as the cultural history of Arabia, accents of Arab tribes, and the structure of the Quranic text in order to present a reliable translation.
According to Rezvan, he is continuing a tradition of Quran translation that started in the 20th century by Saint Petersburg University Professor Ignaty Krachkovsky.
Rezvan says Krachkovsky’s translation, which was released in 1961, still remains the most reliable Russian rendering of the Quran.
