A Khatm Quran (reading the entire Quran) ceremony was held in the Republic of Mali earlier this week, IQNA’s Africa branch reports.
Muslim scholars and thinkers as well as some 3000 Muslim citizens from the cities of Sikasso and the capital Bamako took part in the program, which was hosted by the grand mosque in Mankuri Tagasu district of Sikasso.
Delivering a speech at the event, prayer leader of the mosque Sheikh Ibrahim Samaki said the Khatm Quran ceremony is annually organized to promote the message of Quran and defend its sanctity against ill-intentions of the enemies.
“By holding Quranic events, Muslims underscore their reverence for the Book of God,” he said, adding that such programs are a kind of Jihad against the conspiracies and ploys of the enemies of Islam and the Quran.
Sheikh Samaki further referred to verse 9 of Surah Al-Hijr “Indeed, it is We who sent down the Quran and indeed, We will be its guardian,” and said the enemies’ struggle to undermine the status of the Holy Quran will be in vain.
During this year’s Khatm Quran event, the participants read the entire Quran three times.
Mali is a West African country the majority of whose population is Muslim.
