Most Beautiful Recitation Contest to Be Held on May 4

The 6th session of the Most Beautiful Recitation Contest, a branch of the 9-category Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA) will begin at the Hudaibiya School, Twar-2 area on May 4.
According to a senior official, the five-category tuneful recitation competition is aimed to discover, sponsor and qualify Quran talents and tuneful voices.
“As many as 445 contestants, including 140 in the first category, 78 in the second, 78 in the third, 68 in the fourth, and 61 in the fifth, will compete in the initial tests” said Ibrahim Bu Melha, Head of the DIHQA Organising Committee.
The door was open for application in the contest for 34 days. “There will be, for the first time, a special panel of judges for each category,” said Bu Melha who is also adviser to the Ruler of Dubai for Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs.
Explaining, Ahmed Sager Al Suwaidi, head of the competitions unit of the award said children aged 15 or below may participate in the first category known as ‘Quran Buds’ while the second category billed ‘Quran Youngsters’ is open to 15 to 25-year-olds.
“The third category, ‘Quran Youth’, is open to 26-year-olds and above whereas the two other categories are for Masjids imams and the most tuneful Azan (call for prayer).”
Al Suwaidi said participation is open for the public, be they Emiratis or expatriates. “Contestants in previous sessions of the award, who did not secure any of the first three ranks, are eligible to participate,” he said.
Al Suwaidi added that all participants need to clear initial tests, because “audio records, which were accepted in previous sessions, are no longer approved.”
Final tests will be held from May 19 to 24, and winners will be announced during the closing ceremony on May 20.
“Valuable prizes await the first 15 winners; three contestants from each category. “The first three winners in the first category will be gifted Dh10,000, Dh7,000 and Dh5,000 respectively, while the best trio in the second category will be presented with Dh15,000, Dh10,000 and Dh7,000.”
The third category winners will be given Dh20,000, Dh15,000 and Dh10,000 in turn. The first three imams will be awarded Dh30,000, Dh25,000 and Dh20,000 sequentially while the winning muazens ‘callers for prayer’ will be entitled to Dh25,000, Dh20,000 and Dh15,000. Appreciation certificates will also be given to contestants.
