Speaking at a gathering of his supporters in Cairo, Mursi added that Islam and Islamic teachings will form the basis of his plans for presidency, Al-Yam As-Sabi reported.
The Freedom and Justice Party (political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood Movement) announced Mursi as their nominee for presidential election, after their first nominee Khairat el-Shater was disqualified by the election commission.
Mursi stressed that the Egyptian nation will not allow elements of the former regime to regain power, adding that Egypt’s revolution will continue until a candidate backed by the people gets elected as president.
Muhammad Mursi joined the Muslim Brotherhood Movement’s political section in 1992. He won a seat in Egypt’s Al-Sha’ab parliament in 2000 and served as the movement’s spokesman in the parliament. In 2004, he cofounded the National Front for Change Party and in 2011, the Muslim Brotherhood Movement appointed him as head of the newly established Freedom and Justice Party.
