This is according to seminary and university scholar and author of 9 books on new spiritual movements Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Taqi Fa’ali, who, speaking at the 17th session of a series featuring false mysticisms, added that belief in the authenticity of material world, egoism, seeking only one’s own interests and anarchism are some of the major components of Satanism.
Briefly discussing the different types of Satanism and their history and teachings, he said one should be aware that Satanism is by no means worshipping Satan or any kind of worshipping.
“Satanism is a line of thought that has certain elements and they should be taken into consideration [when studying Satanism].”
He stressed that criticizing Satan is not criticizing Satanism, either. “There are numerous books and articles written against Satanism whose authors have only collected verses and Hadiths about Satan. However, Satanism has nothing to do with Satan and, thus, criticizing Satan is not criticizing Satanism at all. Actually, for them (Satanists) Satan is a role model and represents the superior power.”
Hojat-ol-Islam Fa’ali noted that the first component of Satanism is atheism and rejecting God as the symbol of everything supernatural.
“The second component is non-dualism, namely rejecting the dual nature of the world and mankind. They say the world has not been formed of two sections: the material and the Mujarrad (abstract), nor does mankind have two parts: body and spirit. They believe that the world is merely material and mankind is merely the physical organs; in other words, the universes equals matter. This belief is exactly the same as the one held by materialism.”
He said that egoism and autotheism are other components of Satanism. “Their entire efforts are aimed at serving the ‘self’. Individualism, hedonism, egoism, epicurism and considering oneself as God are all parts of this line of thought.”
The scholar referred to anarchism as another major principle of Satanism, defining it as rebellion and favoring lawlessness.
“They say there is only one law in this world and that is there is no law in the world.”
He underlined the importance of symbols in Satanism and said the cult has the highest number of symbols among mysticism cults.
Hojat-ol-Islam Fa’ali said symbols have many different types such as sculptures, emblems, statues, shapes, etc, adding that many of the cults’ symbols are used in industrial designing and the interior designs of houses.
He pointed to pentagram as the first and major symbol of Satanism among some 100 others, noting that the Pentagon, which represents one of the pillars of the United States is a pentagram.
The Swastika, number 666, letters FFF and the Obelisk are some other symbols of Satanism, the scholar went on to say.
