The event, launched on Friday, July 25, was organized by the city’s Local Scientific Council and Regional Islamic Affairs Directorate. It coincided with the 26th anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s accession to the throne.

The Quranic festival ran for several days and included a range of religious and cultural activities. These featured a Quran-themed street caravan, exhibitions of religious publications, calligraphy workshops for children, and seminars on Islamic scholarship.

The gathering brought together local officials, members of the judiciary and military, and civil society figures. Organizers described it as an opportunity to honor Quran memorization and recitation champions, as well as those contributing to religious and cultural initiatives in the region.

As part of the event, translated copies of the Quran were distributed to Moroccan diaspora communities abroad in an effort to strengthen their connection with Islamic teachings.

One segment of the program paid tribute to an elderly woman participating in Quran literacy and anti-illiteracy programs. Organizers said the move was intended to highlight the value of learning and adherence to religious principles at all ages.

Mohamed Ouriyaghel, head of the Local Scientific Council of Al Hoceima, described the event as more than a symbolic celebration. “This festival is not a passing event,” he said, “but a significant moment that reflects Morocco’s ongoing commitment to supporting Quranic scholars and practitioners.”
