The US media play a major role in spreading Islamophobia in the West, a Canadian Shia political analyst told IQNA.
In an interview with IQNA, Munir Chagpar said American media support the hostile policies of the Unite States and Zionist regime (toward Islam).
They do not limit their enmity to opposing Islam but lampoon Muslim sanctities and seek to destroy them, he said.
“Unfortunately, we are witnessing anti-Islamic moves in American society today. The authorities have ostensibly condemned the (recently released) anti-Islamic movie but the point is that they have failed to prevent such Islamophobic measures and, under the pretext of freedom of speech, allow these groups to carry out their anti-Islamic agenda.
“US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, for example, has called on Muslims to be tolerance in the face of such blasphemies, claiming there is ‘freedom of speech’ in the United States. However, when it comes to issues like questioning the Holocaust, it is interpreted as ‘hate speech’ and nobody is allowed to do it.”
Asked about protests in Canada against the anti-Islamic movie, Mr. Chagpar said that a protest rally was held this Saturday in front of the US consulate in Toronto. “It was attended by not only Muslims but also followers of other faiths who voiced their anger over this act of blasphemy.”
He said such anti-Islamic actions will backfire in the long run and encourage nations to learn more about Islam.
“Some thought that following the 9/11 events, Muslims’ position will be endangered but statistics show that despite extensive anti-Islamic propaganda, Islam has been growing in the US and Canada at a higher rate than other faiths.”
Mr. Chagpar urged Muslims to voice their protest to this desecration peacefully, just as the Holy prophet (PBUH) would confront his opponents.
He further pointed to the US dual polices in the Middle East and said the only purpose behind Washington’s support for Arab world revolutions is safeguarding US interest. “Their only concern is oil resources in the Middle East and protecting the occupying regime of Israel.”
The Canadian political analyst also pointed to the Occupy Wall Street movement in the US and said it is a real crisis facing the US government. “People are tired of the one percent who hold the power. I believe that although a revolution has not taken place, they (the one percent) are facing a serious crisis.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Munir Chagpar highlighted the role of women in the Islamic Awakening movement in the Middle East and North Africa, especially in Bahrain and Egypt.
