How can Saudi Arabia’s double standard polices be justified when the kingdom establishes a center for interfaith dialogue center in Vienna and at the same time supports networks that spread ethnic and sectarian Fitna?
This is a question raised by famous Arab journalist Abdul-Bari Utwan who, on a piece published in Al-Quds Al-Arabi daily writes:
Saudi Arabia’s satellite channels are a threat to the Saudi society itself as well as the entire Arab and Muslim world.
The kingdom’s information and culture minister has recently said his ministry plans to close the networks that intentionally provoke Fitna and division. It is a belated decision and it is not clear what criteria would be used by the ministry to confront these networks.
If real professional and ethical criteria are to be used, the majority of Saudi satellite channels, including those with political, religious or entertainment themes, should be banned.
Saudi satellite networks have adopted a dangerous approach and are playing into the hands of the enemy against the Islamic Ummah. They have opted to serve the objectives of the US and the West.
The kingdom has financially supported TV networks that work to create rifts in Arab and Islamic nations and intensify sectarian conflicts.
They were supported and praised (by the kingdom) when they were busy sowing the seeds of discord and conflicts in Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Bahrain and elsewhere. But now that they disobey the Saudi rulers, there are efforts to put an end to their activities.
It is regrettable that Saudi money goes to spreading Fitna and division in the Islamic Ummah, instead of promoting unity, justice, equality and respect for human rights.
Another point to remember is that the weapon of intimidation no longer works against the Saudi people. The nation has risen up after decades of silence and seeks rights like other Arab nations.
Those following social networks on the Web can witness a brave people (in Saudi Arabia) who have decided to defend their rights and fight against those who steal from the pour and have dominated their life and belongings.
