21 Countries to Attend Int’l Quran Competition for Muslim States’ Armed Forces

The first International Holy Quran Competition for the Armed Forces of Muslim Countries will be hosted by the Islamic Republic of Iran on January 21-24, IRGC deputy commander said.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, Brigadier General Hossein Salami added that the contest will be held with the participation of 80 contestants from 21 Muslim countries.
Pointing to the Holy Quran’s emphasis on the fact that Muslims are a united Ummah, he said the Quranic event aims to strengthen and deepen Islamic unity and fraternity and familiarize Muslim countries’ armed forces with the objectives and ideals of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
General Salami noted that the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini (RA) and the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Imam Khamenei have underlined the importance of Islamic unity.
According to the head of the High Committee of International Quran Competitions for Muslim Countries’ Armed Forces, the contest will be held in the categories of Quran recitation and memorization (at three levels: memorization of 5 and 15 Juzes- sections- and memorization of the entire Holy Quran).
He said a number of Quran experts from Iran and several other countries have been invited to form the jury panel of the competition.
General Salami said invitations have been sent to 48 countries to send representatives to the competition and so far participation of contenders from 21 countries including Pakistan, Senegal, Brunei, Ivory Coast, Iraq, Syria, Oman, Sudan, Indonesia, Palestine, Algeria, Mali, Malaysia, Jordan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh has been confirmed.
He noted that the international competition will be held at the Sa’adabad Complex in Tehran, while the opening and closing ceremonies will be organized at Hafeziyeh Hotel and IRIB Conferences Center, respectively.
There will be programs for the participants on the sidelines of the competition, including a visit to the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini (RA) and visiting an exhibition of the country’s accomplishments in defense industry, he went on to say.
